Christ, the Teacher par excellence, is our Supreme Guru and
Guiding Light.
In our educational mission, we follow the legacy of Saint Kuriakose
Elias Chavara, the founder of the Carmelites of Mary immaculate
(CMI), the first indigenous Catholic Religious Congregation in
India.
Saint Chavara was a pioneer in the educational field of Kerala in
the early 19th century. He is also credited with having established
the first Catholic Sanskrit School and a printing and publishing
house in Kerala at Mannanam in 1846. He directed that every church
should start a school attached to it and encouraged children, even
of poor sections and of all castes and creeds to attend the schools
by arranging the mid-day meal and dress for them.
Saint Chavara
lived for 65 years and died on 03 January, 1871. His sanctity was
officially recognized by the Catholic Church, when Pope John Paul II
declared him Blessed on 08 February, 1986. Saint Chavara is the
heavenly patron of all CMI institutions. His inspiration permeates
all our activities.
