Glorious History

The contributions made by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the congregation founded by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara in the educational field of Kerala, were pioneering and revolutionary. Saint Chavara founded the first Catholic School of Kerala at Mannanam, near Kottayam in 1846. Gradually, all the other CMI Monasteries also followed the movement. In the year 1864, Saint Chavara, in his capacity as the Vicar General of the Syro - Malabar Church, Vide his Vicarial Orders urged all the parishes to start schools adjacent to their Churches. This historic order triggered the emergence of a galaxy of educational institutions all over the State. Today, the CMI Congregation runs about 449 educational institutions which include a Deemed University, Arts and Science Colleges, Autonomous Colleges, M. Ed. and B. Ed. Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, Schools, ITC Centres, Nursing Schools, Research Centres and a Medical College. This Movement later formed the basis of the social-economic development of the whole State. The main aim of the entire educational endeavour of the Congregation is to bring about a social transformation with an option of manifold opportunities for the poor, coupled with an emphasis on moral reconstruction of the society as a whole.
Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School and Christ Nagar Junior School are part of the Christ Nagar Group of Schools which is one of the predominant groups of institutions under the Management of the CMI Congregation in the CMI Province of St. Joseph, Trivandrum. Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School is affiliated to the CBSE Board, New Delhi. It was established in the year 1994 at Kowdiar, Trivandrum. Later, in 1999, it was shifted to the beautiful hillock of Thiruvallam with its sprawling campus facing the Arabian Sea.
The school has maintained high scholastic and co-scholastic records all through the last 14 years of its mission to the Country. The school has the uniqueness of having been bestowed with National and State Level Awards of Excellence in Computer Literacy, the British Council's International School Award, ISO 9001- 2008 and a certification as the prestigious Cambridge English Language Assessment Exam Preparation Centre.
